Performance Documentation: Body Acts
@ Houston Center for Photography
Free for HCP and Aurora Picture Show members / $7 non-members
From dragging themselves with an open paint can in the studio to dressing in a kimono and doll’s mask to destroying television sets, artists have used video beyond merely documenting performances as video was often exploited by artists as an extension of physical and or emotional gestures. The unique technical possibilities of video enabled performers to manipulate the framing and aesthetics of their documentation. Performance Documentation: Body Acts is an hour-long film program including works by Vito Acconci, Paul McCarthy, Saburo Muraoka, Tatsuo Kawaguchi, Keiji Uematsu, Joan Jonas, Mako Idemitsu, Bruce Nauman, Ante Bozanich, and Morihiro Wada.
Co-presented with the Aurora Picture Show
