With the beginning of Fall quickly approaching, temperatures in Houston have (slowly) started creeping downwards!

Join us next Saturday as we embrace the seasonal change in the great outdoors of the Mercer Botanic Gardens:

In the late 1940s, Thelma and Charles Mercer purchased a beautiful 14.5 acre tract of natural land along Cypress Creek. Thelma was an avid horticulturist, and she and Charles did much of the initial selective clearing to make space for some of her favorite native trees that included dogwoods, rusty black-haw viburnum, several species of hawthorns, plus many others. [...] When it came time for the Mercers to retire, they could not bear the thought of a developer bulldozing their “paradise.” So, in 1974, they convinced Harris County to purchase their original 14.5 acre tract with the stipulation that it would grow and be maintained as an educational and horticultural facility for the public’s enjoyment. (Full history here)

Capture Crawl attendees will scour the extensive grounds, which include herb, perennial, rock, prehistoric and a myriad of other gardens, as well as a selection of nature trails winding around and through the property.

Additionally, the gardens are hosting their Autumn Plant Sale & Market from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Guests will "[f]ind a fascinating range of plants, nature-based products and garden-related items for sale [and] enjoy a day of unusual plants, horticultural demonstrations, trendy shopping, plant talks and tasty food within the pine forest of Mercer Botanic Gardens’ West Arboretum. The exciting selection of plants offered by The Mercer Society includes more than 20 varieties of budded camellias, along with specialty plants and other garden-related items from a variety of vendors."

Come celebrate the arrival of Fall, capture some great nature photography and meet your fellow HCP members!
