Collaborations IX: Aging

  May 4 - June 23

HCP’s Collaborations is an educational program that celebrates photography and encourages collaboration and teamwork amongst Houston-area high school students as they create an exhibition from beginning to end.

In its ninth year, Collaborations includes 22 students from fourteen Houston-area high schools. These teenagers met every other week in the evenings at HCP to learn from HCP staff and guests, to discuss exhibition planning, to critique photographic work, and to participate in lectures and discussions with artists and photographers from the Houston community.

During the meetings that led to this exhibition, students discussed the nature of aging and decided to explore it as the theme for this year's program. The result is an eclectic collection of images that reflect the diversity of the group and their points of view on the passing of time. From images that document time and decay, to images that incite memories and nostalgia, Collaborations IX: Aging is an exhibition that challenges the mind. Contemporary culture often portrays the youth, beauty and freedom of teenage years as the ultimate achievement, yet these teenagers look at aging with grace and passion.
