Harvey Recovery Efforts

Hurricane Harvey Houston Day Camp

Houston Strong Project made by children at Greene Family Hurricane Harvey Day Camp

Thanks to support from our community, HCP was able to quickly mobilize its Access and Community Education teaching artists to provide empowering programs for children in area shelters and Harvey Day Camps, including Camp Harvey at Westbury United Methodist Church and the Greene Family Hurricane Harvey Houston Day Camp at Congregation Emanu El.

HCP is offering free use of its Digital Darkroom to scan prints and negatives of photos damaged in flood waters. HCP also provides assistance with restoring images digitally from scans of heirloom photos when negatives are no longer accessible.

We are currently collecting gently used SLR and DSLR cameras for several high school photography programs impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Students either lost their cameras in flood waters or are unable to purchase equipment because they are focusing their family budgets on rebuilding their homes. Many students had just purchased their cameras in preparation for school starting the following week.

Both digital and 35mm film SLR cameras are needed! Some schools have digital-only programs, while others focus on film.

Participating schools include:
• Bellaire High School (Houston ISD)
• Cypress Park High School (Cypress-Fairbanks ISD)
• KIPP Sunnyside High School (Charter)
• Mayde Creek High School (Katy ISD)
• North Forest High School (Houston ISD)
• Sterling Aviation High School (Houston ISD)

Please consider donating to our camera drive! You can bring cameras anytime during our office hours.

Monday - Tuesday 9 AM - 9 PM (offfices and Learning Center hours only)
Wednesday - Thursday: 9 AM - 9 PM
Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM
Saturday - Sunday: 11 AM - 7 PM
